Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is on the Prowl

Vauxhall is one of the best British car manufacturers, and probably one of the first as well; nevertheless, for those who didn’t know it, the brand is a subsidiary of the German Adam Opel AG, which is itself part of the greater American-based General Motors. Although this state of facts saddens us, because corporations nowadays only create the idea of diversity on the market, it may be comforting to some to know that the same standards for quality are applied in cars all over the world. We’re not going to stress our heads with the metaphysics of it all and just focus on the Vauxhall, which, although one of the smaller auto manufacturers, still produces some pretty good cars. The British love them especially but, of course, that is because it has the steering wheel on the right.

Well, that’s not the only reason of course, and in order to prove it we’re going to review one of their latest cars, the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS, a rather bulkish and straightforward vehicle. Although other car reviews found faults in the design, we have to admit this isn’t the ugliest car we’ve seen; besides, we believe it is nothing but a marketing ploy, aimed directly at a specific type of consumer: the driver who wants to make it seem like they’re driving a car which is more powerful and expensive than it really is. If we’ve guessed the guess, then truly, Vauxhall did the best they could with the concept.

Before you just the gun however, you should find out that even Vauxhall has goals and expectations, and the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is not even than cheap anymore. Sure, one of the best things about these cars was that they hid a V8 under the engine and didn’t charge much for it, but Vauxhall is ready to take it to the next level and make their cars a bit more elegant, a tad more luxurious, and thus expand their market target. Moving on to more serious things, let’s see what this car brings to the table: we’ve already mentioned the V8 engine, but unlike previous models, this one sports an Eaton supercharger and a cooling system. It is a rear-wheel drive with six-speed manual gearbox and a 9.9 inch rear diff; is it not becoming clear this car was built to take in a feisty driver who loves to push the limits?

By the way, for those who don’t like manual gearbox, there is the possibility of purchasing the car with a six-speed automatic box as well. Test drives have shown improvements in steering and weight distribution, a lighter clutch pedal, and great-performing brakes. Manufacturers say that the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is even about 40 kilos lighter, but because they were going in a new direction with this car, they’ve also endowed it with several electronic options and improvements. This may not be very necessary to the British consumer, but who knows? It may grow on them, or even attract foreign customers. The car can reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and the engine produces up to 431 bhp. The stats are quite impressive for a car like this, but remember that the price has also gone up, so it remains to be seen how the car will be able to compete with the market.
